You can validate files with: MD5, SHA1, Adler-32, Blake2b, Blake2s, CRC32, RIPEMD-160, SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, SHA3-224, SHA3-256, SHA3-384 and SHA3-512. In this day and age, validating the authenticity of your downloads is more important than ever. The best way of doing that is with a checksum that is publicly posted by the publisher or author. This is the only way to be certain that the file you downloaded is what it purports to be. Whether it's state-actors or common hackers, falsifying files in transit is not as hard as it might sound!
